Twilight Sparkle layed on her bed, her hooves kicking randomly in the air. The book she was currently reading was absolutely captivating, so she unfortunately failed to her the entrance of another pony. She looked up when she realized that the squeak of a rocking chair had been ringing in her ears for the past few minutes. “Pinkie?! What in the name of books are you doing here?!” she said, heart racing. She took deep breaths and coole off. “You practically gave me a heart attack!”
“Silly filly! Today’s the day of the competition!” Twilight sighed. She had almost forgotten about the incoming plane that was their baking competition. She cast a guilty glance at all the baking books she had read, knowing defeat would be inevitable. But hay, you lose a bet, you lose a bet!

“Are the contestants ready!!!??” Rainbow Dash said in a deep, commanding voice. Twilight rolled her eyes.
“Yeah Rainbow, we’re good,” she said, already tasting bittersweet loss. Bitter for the loss, sweet for the baked goods she would get to devour. She smiled and chuckled a little. Pinkie nodded and cracked her neck, looking intimidating in a funny sort of way. Like a REALLY BIG stuffed unicorn.
“ANNNNNND BEGIN!”
Twilight bent over the hot stove, shoving in her poor attempt at baking. The cupcakes she made were called Lavender Surprise… and they sure would surprise the judges. They looked tasty, but she cringed at how horrible they would be. She had put all sorts of ground purple flower petals in it, making it a light smelling batter the shade of her fur. A few chocolate chips in the shape of a flower on top, and Twilight sighed in relief. She wasn’t behind schedule, which was her own little surprise, so she idled for a few minutes before cleaning up.

Twilight sat, obviously displaying her boredom. She couldn’t wait for them to announce Pinkie’s win so she could go.
“And the winner is…………………………………………………………………………………………………TWILIGHT SPARKLE!!!!!” Rainbow announced. Twilight’s jaw dropped. Then she laughed. Pinkie was laughing too. They apparently were thinking the same thing.
“Okay, so who’s the real winner?” Twilight asked with a snort. Rainbow’s eyes questioned her.
“What do you mean? You really did win.”
“At least you tried hard, Twi,” Pinkie said… almost sympathetically. Twilight gave her a confused look.
“Pinkie, what do you mean?” she asked cautiously. Her pink friend gave a small, sad chuckle.
“Hon, I think you’re in denial… I won!” she smiled again. Twilight shook her head.
“No, Pinkie, Rainbow just said that I won…” Pinkie sighed.
~
“Guys, what do you think was with Twilight? I think she honestly thought she had won!” Rainbow whispered as the mane six, besides Twilight, congregated on the way home.
“Ah don’ know what that was all abou’, but ah think we should just…” Applejack trailed.
“Let her believe that she won? I really billy filly don’t mind silly!” Pinkie Pie said, bouncingly. The ponies there shrugged and nodded.
“I guess….”

Twilight went home and sat on the couch smugly. She picked up another baking book and flipped through it. “I should be a baker someday,” she thought to herself. “I did beat Pinkie in that contest!”
What a lavender surprise!
Comments from Donny’s Boy
Who knew that Twilight Sparkle could bake? Way to go against fanon, there! I like that Pinkie Pie is so utterly incapable of believing that Twilight outbaked her that she literally cannot hear what her friends are trying to tell her.
