Rainbow Blitz rolled his eyes and huffed as he looked at Elusive’s latest attempt at designing a suit for him, whipping about and walking away as Elusive looked at him in confusion.

“What? Not enough glitter for you?” Elusive asked with an irritated snort.

“You say that like you’re being sarcastic!” Rainbow retorted with a toss of his multicolored mane. “It’s black again. It’s always black with you! I’m a performer, not a banker!”

“You have rainbow hair!” Elusive groaned. “You’re flashy enough as it is!”

Rainbow grinned and ran a hoof through his mane, carefully, so as not to mess it up. “You have no sense for glamour. I wanna accentuate it, not hide it!”

“If I accentuate you any more you’ll be so bright and colorful nopony will be able to look at you at all!”

“Yes! Yes, exactly!” Rainbow threw up his hooves and grinned. “Nopony can stand the graceful, gilded glory that is Rainbow Blitz!” He spread his wings and did a twirl in the middle of Elusive’s work room.

Elusive rolled his eyes. “You forgot garish and gaudy and gag-worthy.”

“Hmmf!” Rainbow lifted his nose. “Fine. Go back to making your black suits for your black-hearted businessponies.”

He stomped elegantly out the door as Elusive did just that.

Applejack kicked the tree just hard enough to knock the apples out of it. He winced at the sound. He loved his work, but he just didn’t like being so loud. He knew exactly how strong he was and so he always used a light touch.

Butterscotch didn’t have the same problem, and he laughed at the booming sound it made when his hooves rammed against the tree. He took a few more kicks to do what Applejack did with one, but the apples eventually fell from the tree anyway.

Soon Butterscotch walked up to Applejack carrying a basket of apples in his jaws. He put it down at Applejack’s feet and sat down.

“I do love bucking with you,” Butterscotch said with a grin, “but it does get me hungry. How about we stop for a break?”

Applejack blushed and looked away as he sat down next to Butterscotch, nodding. “Aheh. Sure. Ah could, um, use a bite.”

They took a short break from their work as they snacked on apples. The grass was cool and damp and it felt good against Applejack’s fur. It was hard work and he was glad to have Butterscotch there to help, but he couldn’t help blushing as he watched the other stallion’s eyes linger on his flank, and his legs, and his face. He tried not to look back too much, or at least, not to be quite so obvious about it.

Suddenly a squirrel romped through the grass in front of them and Applejack stood up and backed off, startled. Butterscotch got up and came to his side.

“Hey, it’s okay! It’s just a squirrel. Nothing to be afraid of.”

Butterscotch chuckled as the squirrel started sniffing at their basket of apples, and he leaned down to face it. “Hey, run along little guy. There’re some bruised apples over by that tree you can have.”

The squirrel looked up at Butterscotch for a moment before running off. Applejack sighed and Butterscotch came up to give his cheek a reassuring nuzzle. It was relaxing and exciting at the same time.

Dusk Shine looked over Bubble Berry’s shoulder with wide eyes as he carefully mixed the precise ingredients for his new cupcake recipe. Dusk rubbed gently against Berry’s side as he watched, getting a little excited in more ways than one.

Berry chuckled and grinned over at him. “Careful, this is a delicate recipe.”

“I know,” Dusk replied, rocking on his hooves as he smiled at Berry. “I just… I love to watch you cook.”

“Well, you can wait a couple minutes, my silly, sexy sparkle,” Berry replied.

Dusk giggled and gave Berry’s cheek a kiss. “Where’d you get that nickname for me anyway?”

“Sparkle?” Berry brought a hoof to his chin. “You know, I dunno. I just like it.”

“Well, it works for me, cutie pie,” Dusk replied, nuzzling Berry’s neck and shaking his rump eagerly.

“Dusk! I-I’m trying to work.” Berry stammered as his mixing hoof got shaky.

“Oh, I know. And I bet you can work through this,” Dusk said, going lower.

Berry could not work through that. The recipe was ruined. But he didn’t mind too much.

BSB Comments:

Yes. This was really good! I liked the play on personalities that you did here, switching up some of the expectations and still making it fit really well. Rainbow Blitz’s whole spiel on accenting his mane contrasting with Elusive’s desire to be more subdued in particular made me laugh. The switch between Applejack and Butterscotch was pretty great. Big old Applejack being a bit of a scaredy cat was fantastic. The last portion with Berry and Dusk was cute and suggestive and fun too. Well done!
