Elusive’s alarm clock gave off a loud series of cries and rings. His eyes lazily opened to the shaking alarm clock. A more-than-forceful slam to the top of the clock silenced it.

6:30 A.M. He had to hurry.

He slowly blinked at the clock as his blurred vision focused on the clock. Still groggy, he forced himself out of bed; even at this hour, there was work to do. Elusive started with straightening the sheets on his bed and rearranging the mess of pillows scattered across the mattress.

Elusive took extra care with his morning chores; any mistake would piegonhole him as a negligent stallion, he thought. He made sure that the bedspread was devoid of any wrinkles, checked the sides if the sheets were still symmetrical, and if the pillows were arranged nicely.

 6:35 A.M.

Nice work, Elusive. Too slow again.

———

Elusive dragged his hooves from his boutique to the outskirts of town. Nopony would be out of their houses -or even awake- at this time, so he did not have to worry about fixing his mane or shaving. He did, however, have to worry about his friend. Elusive’s friend was already waiting for him, glaring at the sauntering unicorn.

“You’re late.” He scowled. It was the usual greeting for Elusive.

“You’re early, Blitz.” Elusive growled.

“Keep telling yourself that. Are you ready to run?”

“I have to stretch, you know. You don’t want me to hurt myself, do you?”

They talked to one another as if it was they were reciting lines from a script. They were accustomed to the tension, as it led to better runs.

Elusive was the pony who would rather sleep the cool morning away. Rainbow Blitz was the one who impatiently circled Elusive while he stretched his legs. Elusive needed the nagging. He wanted to be a perfect stallion, so he had to have the perfect physique. It meant waking up early and getting dragged along with Blitz for three grueling hours.

“Are you done yet?” Blitz asked.

“Just about.” Elusive nodded. “How far do we run?”

“Three times around town. Don’t walk. Try to keep up this time.”

“Of course.” Elusive grimaced.

RWL’s Commentary

This was a nice little scene between Elusive and Blitz. I liked the description of how Elusive got ready after waking up, how he still had to make his bed and keep everything nice and tidy even though he was getting up so early and had to go running, since he didn’t want anypony to think less of him. And I like the idea of him and Blitz going on early morning runs like this. I can imagine Elusive wanting to keep in shape and going to Blitz for help. Good work.
