Thirty Minute Pony Stories

Where we challenge ourselves to write pony stories in thirty minutes. Prompts are posted daily. All safe for work.

“Him? Of course I know who he is. This is going to be quite the bedtime story, Spike.”

Once, there was a war. It wasn’t a war between ponies and griffins, or ponies against themselves, but it was a war between two unstoppable forces. The strength of the unchanging Sun against the power of entropy. But that “war,” as she called it, is shrouded in mystery. To this day, I do not know who was a friend or foe to Equestria.

“He was some sort of god. His powers rivaled that of Princess Celestia’s and Princess Luna’s. Remember how the Sun and Moon changed places? That was his doing. He had Princess Celestia and Princess Luna under his control.”

My heart raced at the very few accounts of Discord. Before long, I was immersed in the books I thought were filled with useless information. I began to remiss in my daily workload to read the pages that told of the First War of Chaos. The woodblock-stamped image of Discord began to move in my mind. I recreated all of the horrors of Discord with my mind’s eye. My mouth was still parched even after drinking the words of that old book.

There are no transcripts about the Second War of Chaos. Even the First War is covered in a hazy mist of ancient words. It was difficult to acknowledge as history, since the only written account spoke of a destructive power that felled Discord in a single strike.

But he is the being I seek- the “Lord of Chaos.” A creature of unspeakable prowess, of otherworldly composition, of reality-shattering magic.

“Do you remember that day? Don’t you remember how your friends were acting… strange? Remember how grey that all looked? Remember how Rarity was carrying that rock, or how Fluttershy was unusually cruel?”

I have to know more. The blurry account of Discord’s past actions was not enough to satiate my hunger for knowledge of this being. His ability to defy the limits of the natural world, his cunning and twisted magic, his talent to reverse and shatter order with the single snap of his talons.

“Some say that the world was going to end that day. I almost believed them.”

The pony I live with fought in the Second War of Chaos. At the time, I was too scared to even leave my home. But now, I am ready to the story behind my friends’ strange behavior during my short time with them that day.

“Everything I knew about reality shattered that day.”

Today, I am ready to go an adventure. An adventure through the distorted space and the indiscernible time Discord lived in. An adventure guided by Twilight Sparkle’s words.

“If I recall correctly, it began with rain that tasted like chocolate milk falling from the sky. It came from clouds made from cotton candy.”

Dear Author,

I don’t even like to remember that day. Thank goodness for Princess Celestia, or else I might have lost all my friends to Discord’s magic. And probably lost myself, too. But that didn’t happen, and here we all are, safe and sound! Come to think of it, Spike has been curious about what happened that day. I’ll need to tell him about it … some day.
