“Onward, my noble steed!” commanded Spike, and for once, Twilight was eager to comply, her hooves beating quickly against the sandy desert ground. “Forward! She is in my sights!” he exclaimed again, and Twilight snickered, then agreed once again, thoughts racing through her head as fast as she ran. Spike yanked on her reins suddenly, and Twilght skidded to a stop, coming to the edge of a deep crack in the ground.
“Hell~o!” called a cultured mare’s voice, and Spike leaped from Twilight’s back, running towards the crack. Twilight followed, peering down and lighting her horn.
“We have arrived, milady!” called Spike, smiling at the mare below him.
“Oh thank you!” she cried, waving up at him. “Can you get me from these dismal lands?”
“Of course!” replied Spike, just as Twilight began to light her horn, a snake of magic headed towards the mare. “No,” he commanded Twilight, and she stopped. “I must do this.”
“Thank you!” cried the voice again, and Twilight caught a glint of white from below.
Spike lifted the rope from Twilight’s saddle bags, sending it plummeting towards the small jut in the cliff below.
“Hold this,” he commanded, throwing the end towards Twilight as she caught it in her magic. He wrapped his claws around it and within moments was descending the rope towards his destiny. He arrived at the bottom and smiled, waving a free claw towards the unicorn mistress. “Come, milady,” he said kindly, and she grabbed the rope with her magic.
As the rope lifted towards the top, the unicorn mare leaned in, wrapping her hooves around the dragon and embracing him in a loving kiss. Spike smiled through the kiss, and remained that way as the rope crawled towards the light ahead.

“Wait, who wrote this?” asked Twilight, waving the parchment through the air. “It’s anonymous!”
“Not me,” chorused the crowd at Spike’s party, but one other unicorn in the room’s face held a deep, telling blush.
Dear Author,
I’m blushing again. Rarity would never! Would she? Come to think of it, I guess there was that thing with the ruby, and … no, no, she sees Spike as a little brother, I’m sure of it. But what about— nope I’m done thinking about this now, ha ha, ha. Thank you for the story! I know Spike is just going to love this one.
