Thirty Minute Pony Stories

They entered the room. The balconies were empty, but they walked with the thoughts of the masses in our minds. Even though the griffin appeared peaceful, an air of hostility surrounded him.

The two Princesses strode forward and exchanged greetings. Princess Celestia gestured to the griffin to sit while Princess Luna seated herself on the other side. The table was rectangular, which was somewhat strange to hold a meeting between different countries.

However, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia seated themselves along the longer side of the table, leaving the two shorter edges with empty seats. Concerned, the griffin asked if there were any other ponies attending the meeting, to which Princess Celestia assured him that they were simply decoration.

As Princess Celestia welcomed the griffin again, Princess Luna studied the ambassador.

The griffin on the left had a small, crooked beak. An usually long red wattle extended from his eyes and drooped down to his neck. His eyes dilated and constricted with every blink. The feathers were combed back. He called himself Fritz, which was a common name from Lumen. Fitting, the princess thought, as griffins from the country of Lumen were known as the most objective diplomats in Gryphus.

“Thank you for the hospitality.” Fritz said slowly.  His head bobbed slightly, as if he were hiding something. He narrowed his gaze and looked down, trying to find the appropriate words in Equestrian in his mind. As memory served, the griffins would always ask something ludicrous of the Princesses. It was usually an army, or one hundred unicorns to create a firestorm around another country for a week.

Will the infighting ever cease? Princess Luna thought.

“We ask of you, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, to attend the celebratory party of Gryphus.”Fritz said.

“‘Gryphus?’” Princess Luna asked. “There’s no such place, is there, sister?”

Luna turned to Celestia, who had a pleased grin on her face. The griffin beamed and let out a small-but-hearty laugh.

“We ask of you to raise the Sun on the twelfth of December as a reminder of Equestria’s precedence on the events that brought us to the pathways of peace.”

“And what of the Moon?” Princess Luna asked excitedly.

The griffin paled slightly. Hours of perpetration did not ready him for such a question. “Y-your presence is required as well, Princess Luna.”

Her eyes winced.

Princess Celestia and Fritz exchanged lighthearted thanks and praise to their nations while Princess Luna sat upright and smoldered with a quiet anger. Another Sun-raising and another Moon-setting celebration. Where were the Moon-rising celebrations?

She let the others continue on merrily without her interruption, as the night would dampen their “day.”

Patience, you’ll have your turn eventually. Luna thought.

Norse Pony’s comment: Gotta love pre-NMM historical stories. I liked that this incident was one more weight on the scale that is tilting toward Luna’s transformation.  Your description of Fritz was very good. It painted his appearance clearly.
