I have to be quick. Every second counts.
The unicorn opened the locker, pulling out his gear.
He pushed his hooves through the leg holes, careful not to rip the fabric. It was an expensive suit, custom built just for him and he didn’t want to risk damaging it.
Cinch it at the waist…
The unicorn pulled the belt tight.
Gotta go faster. I should have been there five minutes ago…
A grey mass was levitated over to him and gently shaken out.
Okay. Now the vest
The heavy rubberized vest, magically designed to handle extremes of both heat and cold stretched over his midsection and was buttoned closed, followed by a series of clips to ensure it wouldn’t fall off. The small radio receiver hidden in the vest’s left shoulder was tested.
The long heavy fabric ‘gloves’ were pulled over his forelegs and attached at the leg holes of the vest with strong clips.
And finally the helmet.
The unicorn gave the sizeable headpiece a once over to ensure the goggles were clean and the air vent was unclogged before setting it on his head firmly, the helmet locking into place with a series of loud snaps.
Okay. I’m ready for anything. The rest of the team is waiting. It’s go time.
He spoke into the radio hidden in his left shoulder. “On my way sir. ETA: one minute.”
“Quick as you can, please. It’s getting harder to keep under control.”
The unicorn carefully stood up on his hind legs and steadied himself. Ensuring that he had his balance, he opened the door to the locker room and emerged. The large crowd of foals behind the gate cheered as “Barko the Big Mean Diamond Dog” entered the amusement park to begin his work day.
Ha! Excellent lead up to the punchline! Short and sweet and hilarious.
