If you were to ever awake
From that dream,
My hooves I would extend, but with your smile, you forsake.
Your head is heavy, enchanted with sleep. Why do you beam?
Butterflies surround you. Aren’t they grand?
The animals gather, surround,
Awaiting for the pink smile of the land.
Some are strong, others weak. Malevolence is abound.
Butterflies surround you. This I fear.
The day, now dusk. Your dream, almost done.
Your serene smile sours, since She is near.
My friends, they flee, yet I do not run.
Awaken, please! Awaken! Draw one more breath!
Awaken, just awaken, lest your pink smile welcomes Death.

I will admit, I found it hard to tell at first whether it was Pinkie or Fluttershy dying. But upon further reflection, it seems to me it’s both, dying in each others arms, trying to stay alive despite the best efforts of whatever dealt them mortal blows. Did they survive or not? Because it’s poetry, it’s really up to the reader. I think, though, that they didn’t, which is saddening.
