The Canterlot gardens were a sea of ponies as far as the eye could see. An enormous crowd had gathered in the prestige of this royal party, which was exactly what I needed. Under the hood which hid my distinctive mane, and the cape that covered my wings, I blended invisibly.
As I slowly made my way through them, I scanned for the lavender unicorn who was my target. Then I spotted her; she stood out as if surrounded by a golden light.
I kept my distance cautiously. She would undoubtedly be on guard.
I chose my path carefully, picking moments to sit down on benches and make myself even less conspicuous. I made my way to an alley on the side. Ducking out of the din of the party, I found a spot that was out of sight and glided silently up the side of the building onto the rooftop.
Keeping my head low and out of sight, I watched the path of my target below, and followed her along the rooftops.
Then she came a little too close to a corner building.
It was my chance.
I was unstoppable.
Just as my target walked past the corner, I leapt off the same. The hidden blade on my fetlock flicked into the deadly position. In a moment, I was on top of, crashing to the ground, my blade in her neck.
“You said you would always be loyal to the Princess,” said my target.
“That was before I knew,” I said.
“About what? About the slavery? The destruction of the world? All necessary to bring ponies into Harmony, together under one banner, the banner of the Princess.”
“What we’ve created is not Harmony. Harmony was what we had when all creatures were free. What we have now is all creatures, and all ponies, submitted to the rule of one iron hoof.”
“You of all ponies, I never expected to betray us.”
“I’m not the traitor. The traitor is you and your Princess.”
Then, I saw that those were the last words she would speak. I gently ran my hoof over her eyes to close them.
Requiescat in Pace.
Then I looked up.
“It’s the Assassin!”
“Kill her!”
“Kill the Assassin!”
As the guards all drew their weapons, I decided that was the time to make my escape.

An Assassin’s Creed reference! I only played a few minutes of one of those games, but it’s still a fairly obvious reference. The Assassin being Rainbow Dash is fairly clear too, from the use of the “distinctive mane” to the dialog from her target. Question is, who was her target? I suspect it’s Twilight, but we really can’t tell from the way the story is written—it could be anyone. The story also suggests there is a dark core under the candy-coated exterior that is Equestria, a frightening prospect that I’m not sure I like contemplating.
