Right. 4 things. 4 cities. 24 hours. No problems. I’m Rainbow Dash after all!
A rainbow-trailed blur of blue rocketed across Equestria at high speed, in the direction of Manehattan, only one thing on her mind.
First things first – roses!
Rainbow Dash examined the list that Rarity had prepared her – quite a feat at multiple times the speed of sound. First on the list of items was a bouquet of red roses, and Manehattan had Equestria’s most famous florist. Tucking the list away, Rainbow concentrated on her target, a grin on her face.
This is gonna be awesome!
“How much!?” Rainbow yelled at the florist behind the counter, who currently had a rather bored expression on her face.
“Like, they’re 40 bits for a dozen. I, like, said that already.”
“You’re just lucky she’s worth it!” Rainbow forked over the bits, somewhat grudgingly, and was presented with a box containing 12 long stemmed red roses. Rainbow wasted no time in launching skywards once more, and zooming towards her next target – Baltimare.
“What!?” Rainbow yelled in much the same tone she had used on the florist in Manehattan.
“40 bits for a box of our best.”
“But it’s tiny!”
“But romantic, and totally worth it. Uh, the pony these are for IS worth it, right?”
“Yeah, she is.” Rainbow nodded, before scowling once more. “You’re just lucky she is, and that I’m friends with your cousin Bon Bon!”
Rainbow forked over the bits, and tucked the box of incredibly posh (and expensive) chocolates into her saddle bag. Once outside, she launched skywards once more.
“Where next? Aah yeah! Las Pegasus!” And Rainbow Dash flew ever onwards…
“How mu- no, you know, I’m not even gonna bother. Just gimme the wine.”
40 bits poorer, Rainbow Dash flew off once more.
“Last item – her favourite cheese. Next stop, Canterlot!”
“Yeah yeah, I know. Just gimme the cheese.”
“Here you are, Miss.” Replied the snooty cheese shop owner. He was summarily paid his required amount of bits and the cheese was passed to Rainbow Dash.
“Woah, all that flying has me beat. How long have I got?” Checking a nearby clocktower, Rainbow Dash saw she had 7 hours remaining.
“Huh! Not bad, Rainbow Dash! Not bad at all!” Rainbow Dash smirked…then frowned. “No, no third person. I’ll start sounding like Trixie. Hmm, wonder if there’s somewhere I can relax around here.”
Rainbow Dash roamed the streets of Canterlot in search of a convenient cloud for a nap before her date. Sighting one near the park, Rainbow sped over and draped her saddlebags in a nearby tree before bedding down in the cloud for a rest.
Just a quick nap. Nothing wrong with that.
Soon, she was fast asleep…
Woah, that was a good nap! Right! Time to head on- …uh oh…
Rainbow Dash looked over at the nearby clock tower. She had 30 minutes. Canterlot to Ponyville in 30 minutes? Even for her that was pushing it.
Gah! I’m late! Quick! Where’s my…NO!
On the floor at the base of the nearby tree, Rainbow’s saddlebags lay open. The chocolates and cheese were nibbled, the flowers scattered, and the wine bottle broken. Rainbow looked close to tears, when she steeled herself and spread her wings.
No time! I promised to meet her at 7, and I keep my promises! They don’t call me Rainbow Loyalty Dash for nothing!
OK, so they don’t call me that at all, but it would be cool if they did. Anyway, home. Now!
And with that, Rainbow Dash was gone so fast the cloud she was on seemed to spontaneously catch fire.
Rainbow Dash pushed ever harder, Ponyville coming up in the distance as she powered onwards, feeling the familiar burn of friction as she pushed the boundaries of ordinary pegasus flight.
A familiar cone began to form before her, the air feeling thicker, harder before her now.
Rainbow felt the resistance before her growing exponentially, until, suddenly…
The visible light spectrum was ripped apart as Rainbow Dash suddenly shot forward at a far greater speed that she was mere moments ago. Behind her was the enormous rainbow shockwave of the Sonic Rainboom.
In mere moments she was over Ponyville, circling to bleed off speed before swooping over the square, watched by admiring ponies who had seen the Rainboom, and landed just down the road from the café, galloping along as fast as she could.
Outside the café, Twilight Sparkle sat, smiling as she watched the shockwave of the Rainboom fill the sky. She was interrupted by the sight of Rainbow Dash coming down the road at high speed, looking bedraggled and worn out. Her mane was a mess, and she was covered in sweat.
“Rainbow? Are you OK?” Twilight asked. “Did you do that Rainboom for me?” Before Rainbow Dash could answer, Twilight had wrapped her hooves around her neck and given her an affectionate nuzzle and kiss on the cheek.
“Thank you so much, Rainbow Dash!”
“Oh, uh, hey, it was nothing, Twi. Only the best for you! You know that!”
Twidash! I like this one already on merit of it being one of my favourite pony pairings. Overall this was a neat little story, seeing Dash rush from place to place in preparation for her night with Twilight was lots of fun. Good job!
