Visiting Sweet Apple Acres wasn’t Rarity’s first choice for a Saturday, but she had promised Sweetie Belle whatever she wanted. Her luck would be that she had to spend an entire day out in the hot sun, with Applejack as her only company while the Cutie Mark Crusaders tried their hooves at apple bucking. Rarity winced as Sweetie kicked a tree particularly hard, vibrating the small pony’s entire being.

“Oh Sweetie darling do try not to overexert yourself.”

“Aw don’t worry ‘bout nothin’, Rares. Ah got everythin’ under control.”

“Oh it’s not your abilities I doubt, it’s theirs. Are you sure they’re not going to get hurt?”, Rarity remarked as Scootaloo went spinning off into the orchard.

“If they do, it’ll be their own fault, and they’ll learn their lesson.”, Applejack stated in a matter-of-factly tone.

Rarity’s head started spinning as she watched the twirling pegasus leap to and fro. Sweetie Belle started humming a little tune as she watched Apple Bloom fix the cart where its wheel had broken off. They stayed like that for a while, Rarity slightly swaying.

“You reckon they’ll ever realize…”

“No, I don’t suppose they will, at least not until the silly things pop up on their flanks. Say, is it a bit warm out here?”

“You feelin’ okay, Rares? Maybe you should go sit down, cause yer lookin’ a bit frazzled.”

“Maybe you should learn some manners. Never say anything negative about a lady’s appearance. How would you like it if someone told you you didn’t look good? Not that you ever don’t look good, but still.”

“Ah think you need to go inside.”

“No! I promised Sweetie that I would spend the day with her, even if I had to spend all day outside with you, not that that’s a bad thing.”, the unicorn giggled.

“The heat’s gone to yer head, Rares. Yer gonna pass out.”, the orange pony became worried as Rarity’s eyes became unfocused.

“Whaaat? That’s silly, darling! I’m just fine!”

Rarity didn’t see a problem. The three fillies were well into another part of the orchard, so she had nothing to distract her from the good looking orange pony in front of her. She leaned closer, but much to her dismay, AJ moved back. That was when everything went blurry, and she fell over.

“Alright sugarcube, yer goin’ in whether ya like it or not.”, she said as she lifted her dizzy friend onto her back.

“Oh I do so love it when you call me that!”, she grinned.

“Ah know, Rares.”

Bookman’s Comments

Aw, a very cute story, Icemoon. Seeing Rare so unabashed and off kilter was adorable, and Applejack being oblivious as always was funny.
