Thirty Minute Pony Stories

In the beginning, there was the Forest.

The Forest girdled the world, over every hill and dale.

But the Forest was lonely, for it was alone.

So the Forest gave birth to four children.

In the North was born the draconequus, Discord, also called Chaos.

In the East was born the first alicorn sister, Celestia, also called Sun.

In the South was born the queen of the hive, Gavotte, also called Order.

In the West was born the second alicorn sister, Luna, also called Moon.

The children roamed the Forest, and wherever they went, the Forest changed.

Discord brought forth the wild-blooming Spring, and brought life to the Forest.

Plants and animals of all kinds spread over the Forest.

Clover and honeysuckle, cows and pigs, and others.

Discord was pleased, seeing the life he created.

Gavotte’s heart was troubled. The Chaos of life made her fear for the Forest.

So Gavotte touched each living thing in the world, and gave them a gift.

Gavotte brought the peace of Winter, and brought death to the Forest.

Death brought Order to the Chaos of life, giving each living thing an end.

Discord’s heart was troubled. The Order of death made him fear for life.

Gavotte and Discord argued, scarring the heart of the Forest with their anger.

At last, they saw that they were equals, and neither could triumph over the other.

Discord and Gavotte stopped fighting then, and went to Celestia and Luna.

Sun, they said, Moon, they said, help us with your wisdom.

You see the whole of the world from your places in the sky.

You can see to answer us. Which should triumph? Order, or Chaos?

Celestia and Luna smiled. Both, they said. Neither, they said.

Order and Chaos are both needed, and neither must triumph.

Set aside your pride and see the truth.

Discord and Gavotte did so, and saw the truth.

Discord and Gavotte came together, and from their union was born Harmony.

Harmony is the merging of Order and Chaos.

It is the balance between the two.

The dance that revolves around the center.

Harmony went and touched the life in the Forest.

Harmony gave life the gift of birth.

The Order of death balances the Chaos of life.

The Harmony of birth permits the balance to continue.

Another excellent creation myth, this one told in verse! The idea of chaos creating life and then order creating death is really interesting, and it makes a lot of sense, order placing limits and boundaries on things. And I like the idea of Harmony being the balance between order and chaos. This is a really fascinating story!
