“It wasn’t as though we had no finer times…” she began hesitantly, the gleaming stone of the monument casting shadows over the garden. “In fact, we do recount many a time of frivolity and joy during our youth.”

She stared at the monument, expecting something. Perhaps expecting it to rise up and greet her. Perhaps confirming that all of this were some elaborate prank.

“We daresay that the joyous occasions outnumbered those of a more odious nature. Though…certainly not in their length.” She paused, pawing at the damp earth. “Perhaps not even in severity.”

With a sigh, she planted herself in the sodden earth with a discomforting squelch.

A most undignified pose, we’re certain, she thought with a dismissive snort, keenly aware of the guard’s eyes upon her as well as her failing decorum.

“What you have done is unforgiveable…there is no doubt…there is no excuse that we may make for it, hope as we might to mend our memory,” she stated in a cold tone, eyes narrowing in anger before softening as they drifted to the saturated soil. Casually, she lifted a hoof to her mouth, watching as the unnatural mixture dripped from her well-worn hoof cuff. “But…you allowed us laughter…your…your…” She frowned. “Your…lightness of spirit helped to raise our own and…we’re are uncertain what can replace you.”

Rising from the mud, flanks caked in the odd slurry but uncaring for the moment, she glared at the chimeric statue.

“Perhaps another time, Discord…” she murmured sadly as she turned to her entourage, their eyes straying from her. With a sigh, she strode back towards the shell of what was to be a grand monument, a soaring tribute to order over chaos.

It made her sick, a darkness twisting in her gut.

Perhaps sooner than later…

Piggy Comments:

This is an interesting story -I like the idea that her friendship with Discord helped Luna to be happy, and that she genuinely misses him despite the terrible things he did. Her regret feels real, and it makes me want to see more of the two of them as friends. The last line troubles me, though - is Luna expecting trouble, or is she planning to cause it?
