Sweetie the Vampire Slayer

By Coaldust

The library was silent. Few students actually bothered with the library since apart from needing textbooks for study, they were often off doing other, cooler things. However the new student to Manehattan Secondary School, Sweetie Belle, trotted in and looked about. She was looking for the librarian.

A grey maned, brown coated stallion trotted out of a back room, and his face lit up suddenly as he saw Sweetie Belle. Sweetie Belle smiled and fished out a small list from her saddlebags.

“Oh, hi! You must be Vigilant! The principal told me you’d help me get the books I need to catch-“ Sweetie was interrupted as a large, thick, very old tome was plonked on the desk before her. Across the front of the dusty book was a single word.

VAMPYRE

“I know exactly what you need!” The stallion said in a refined Trottingham accent, smiling at her happily. “I’ve been expecting you!” Sweetie Belle frowned and shook her head.

“Uh, no, I need Advanced Thaumaturgical-“

“No, this is definitely what you need. And we need to start your training immediately. Dark forces are moving towards something sinister, and we-“ Sweetie Belle stomped a hoof and snorted.

“Why? Why are you doing this to me? I had to run from my old life because of this world! Why can’t you all leave me alone!?”

“Because you are The Slayer. One mare in all the world, chosen to fight the Vampires, the Demons, and the forces of darkness. You are the world’s best hope.” Vigilant turned to a locked chest behind him. “Now I have some supplies here for you. We need to begin our work fairly-“ He turned back around, but Sweetie Belle was gone. “…swiftly.”

That was how it started. Stupid prophecies. Stupid destinies. All I wanted was a normal life. Instead I have this…duty to fulfil, and no social life to speak of.

Sweetie Belle sighed as she stalked a dark alleyway, stake slotted away safely in a sash across her front.

And now I have to spend tonight stalking yet another toothy bloodsucker. Joy.

A growl from behind made Sweetie Belle tweak an ear.

“Well well well, and here I was thinking it was going to be a lonely night. So what’ll it be? Pictures? Dinner out?” She spun, and her magic launched the stake swiftly into the vampire pony’s heart, promptly turning it to dust.

“Wooden pointy object? Guess that’s a no.”

Sweetie Belle sighed and put the stake back, heading back out of the alleyway, and straight into Scootaloo.

“Hey, Sweetie Belle. We need to talk.” Sweetie Belle’s heart fluttered at the voice. Scootaloo had been the one semblance of normalcy in her chaotic life. She’d turned up at the same school not long after Sweetie Belle met Vigilant, having moved to Manehattan. Scootaloo told her she moved to be closer to family, though Sweetie Belle thought that a bit suspect.

“Sure Scoots! What’s up?”

“Not here. Come on, back to my place.”

The two ponies trotted the dark streets before eventually returning to Scootaloo’s apartment. Sweetie Belle settled into the sofa as Scootaloo sat opposite her.

“So, we’ve known each other all our lives, right?” Scootaloo asked. Sweetie Belle nodded affirmative.

“Yep! Cutie Mark Crusaders forever, even today!”

“Right…well…what if I was to tell you that I’m actually older than you think? That I’m hiding something important from you.” Sweetie Belle’s smile wavered a little, but she nodded to Scootaloo to continue.

“Right…this is going to be… a little strange, but you need to know. And know that I will never, EVER hurt you. OK?” After Sweetie nodded, Scootaloo sighed…and her face begin to ripple and shift. Sweetie stared in shock.

Sat opposite her was a vampire pony. Sweetie shot out of her seat, instincts making her reach for her stake.

“Wait! No! I’m here to help you! I need to warn you about something! I’m not evil! Really!” Scootaloo said in a panic. Sweetie froze, and Scootaloo took that as a sign to continue.
“I’ve learned about a vampire lord who’s trying to raise a demon to help him attack the city. He’s starting with the school – he needs 5 ponies to act as a sacrifice and he’s going to march on the school campus tonight!”

“Why…why should I believe you? You look like my friend but you’re one of them!”

“Because I AM your friend! I’m the one who went into the Everfree with you and almost got turned into stone by a cockatrice! I’m the one who sang that really bad song at the talent show! I’m the one who got you that karaoke set for your Cuteceneara!”

Sweetie Belle sighed…and sat…and put the stake away.

“OK…so…we’re going to the campus and we’re going to find this thing.  Anything I should know about him?”

“Stronger than normal vampires, commands great loyalty, could really use a breath mint. Your best option is surprise.”

Sweetie Belle nodded, and they were off.

Time to save the world. Again.

((Would have been longer, but I hit the time limit and struggled a little anyway))

Sweetie the Vampire Slayer? Sure, why not. Sweetie’s life isn’t going to be much fun. So much action and death all around her—she’ll never get a chance to slow down. At least Scootaloo can be trusted, so to speak. Scootavamp, her friend this whole time, always the vampire—I like that too because it kinda says that Scoots has been watching out for her. Learning her friend was the Slayer probably scared Scootaloo more than anything…but she decided to trust Sweetie anyway. Scootabelle friendshipping is good stuff.
